How to join the Confessing Church Movement

The Confessing Church Movement within the Presbyterian Church (USA) is a steadily growing grassroots movement of churches. More than 1,300 congregations representing more than 433,000 Presbyterians in 45 states and Puerto Rico have endorsed the movement -- which Christianity Today called one of the "most influential" news stories of 2001.

Pastors, elders and members, who have been distressed over the drift of the denomination in some areas and the refusal of the General Assembly Council to require its agencies to affirm Jesus Christ alone as the Way of salvation, are feeling compelled to take a public stand on the church's historic witness. They believe they must confess the historic Christian faith at a time when their denomination's leadership has compromised it.

The Confessing Church Movement began with Summit Presbyterian Church in Pennsylvania and then spread to the Beaver-Butler Presbytery, which reaffirmed three major tenets of the Christian faith:

A. That Jesus Christ alone is Lord of all and the way of salvation.

B. That holy Scripture is the triune God's revealed Word, the Church's only infallible rule of faith and life.

C. That God's people are called to holiness in all aspects of life. This includes honoring the sanctity of marriage between a man and a woman, the only relationship within which sexual activity is appropriate.
